Uche Ignites Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite entering their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star figures like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually secures them a place in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the knockout stages, especially after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their league season proved no match even for a largely rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee injuries.
Control Asserted from the Outset
In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A slick move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
